Operations Manager

 

The YWCA is looking for a Full Time Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of both locations of the YWCA Brandon. The successful candidate must be an experienced leader who is hands on and can successfully build a solid and reliable team to work within a fast paced and highly stressful sector. The Operations Manager will be responsible to carry out the purpose, objectives and values of the YWCA and demonstrate a willingness to adhere to and promote the mission statement and values of the YWCA programs and service plans.

 

Duties:

  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, manage the development, implementation and evaluation of all programs and services offered at the YWCA Brandon.

  • Participate in developing and implementing short term goals and long range plans for the YWCA Brandon.

  • Participate as an ex-officio member of YWCA Brandon Finance Committee and other committees as required, and attend YWCA Board members as requested.

  • Responsible for hiring and managing performance of staff, holding staff meetings, scheduling and day-to-day staffing concerns.

  • Attend and participate in labour management discussions and negotiations.

  • Assist Executive Director in the fiscal management and administration.

  • Ensure the proper maintenance and safety of the YWCA Brandon facilities and equipment.  

  • Maintain a positive community profile.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Must have over 3 years of successful Management Experience to be considered to work in the role – experience preferred in managing social service sector or medical staff and/or experience in facility management.

  • University Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Social Services.

  • 5+ years’ experience in the Non-Profit Sector, or Administration fields of work – equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.

  • Experience with Pay Works, HIFIS, Excel, and Word.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and administrative skills are required.

  • Ability to create and maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all.

  • Experience dealing with Union negotiations and grievances.

  • An understanding of the YWCA movement, vision and mission statement of the YWCA Brandon is an asset.

Child and Youth Counsellor III

Full Time

The YWCA Brandon Westman Women’s Shelter is looking for a full time Child and Youth Counsellor-III. Children’s counselling services provide support for the children of abused women while they are residents of the shelter and after leaving shelter. The program is intended to assist child witnesses to break the secret of abuse and understand the dynamics of abuse in the context of family relationships, to advocate for these children and ensure that they are referred to needed community resources upon leaving shelter.

 

Duties:

  • Planning, implementing and evaluating programs designed to provide holistic services for children who have witnessed family violence.

  • Provide individual and group counselling to residential and non-residential children, support and parenting programs to parents.  

  • Coordinating services to children, including Girl Space, school programs and presentations, Children’s Support Group, Play Group, Aboriginal Culture, advocacy and referrals, and counselling services.

  • Model healthy relationship behaviors in all interactions in the work environment.

  • Proactively creates a space of unconditional positive regard that allows clients a safe place to focus on their own mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have University degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or a related field to qualify under Counsellor job title.

  • Must have thorough understanding of the issue of violence against women and their children, including types of abuse, the impact of violence on the woman and her family and the related historical, societal and power imbalance issues.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of child development and how to develop age appropriate programming for children who have witnessed family violence.

  • Minimum one-year supervised counselling experience including individual and group counselling.

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and to maintain an open communicative and supportive working environment.

  • Ability to work alone and exercise good judgement in handling the special demands inherent in a crisis facility. (e.g. high client numbers, assessing client priority-crisis line, walk-ins, etc.)

  • Ability to manage heavy caseload effectively and professionally.

  • Excellent inter-personal communication, written communication and conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of community resources.

  • Patience, maturity, dependability and flexibility.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Clear understanding of the child welfare mandate.

Grant Writer (Contract)

The YWCA Brandon is looking for a Grant Writer (Contract) who would be up for the challenge of successfully securing funding for their role but also to help the YWCA Brandon secure funding for the long-term financial viability.

We are seeking an experienced individual whose work ethic aligns with our Vision and Mission Statements.   The successful candidate needs to be knowledgeable of the funding opportunities available provincially and federally which include CMHR, Reaching Home and other options.  The Grant Writer will work with the Executive Director regarding the funding streams to pursue.

 

Duties:

  • Develops an inventory of funding opportunities and then composes, submits, tracks, and reports application progress to Executive Director

  • Identifies grant and funding opportunities that support current and future programs.

  • The position may require working on a major Capital Project for the organization along with regular funding opportunities

  • Finalizes funding contracts and advises finance of the payment schedules associated with the funding

  • Ensures, where applicable, that funding reporting follow the funding contract

  • Ensures, where applicable, the associated funds are received according to the funding terms

  • Other duties as assigned

Casual Counsellor Position

​Westman Women’s Shelter is looking for Casual Counsellors that are available to work nights, evening and weekends.

 

Duties: 

·         Provide crisis intervention, counselling, abuse education, resources and referrals and advocacy to clients accessing              shelter.

·         Provide a safe, home-like atmosphere for women and children.

·         Keep agency statistics up to date and submit reports as required.

·         Communicate effectively with all staff providing relevant information about client needs, etc.

Job Requirements:

• Must have thorough understanding of the issue of violence against women and their children, including types of abuse, the impact of violence on the woman and her family and the related historical, societal and power issues.

• Post-secondary education in Social Work or Social Service Worker and/or a combination of education and related experience

• Strong Group Facilitation Skills

• To be able to work effectively as a team member and to maintain an open, communicative and supportive working environment.

• To be able to work alone and exercise good judgement in handling the special demands inherent in a crisis facility. (i.e. high client numbers, assessing client priority – crisis line, walk-ins, etc.)

• The ability to handle crisis situations in a calm, reasoned manner.

• A strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong computer skills and a willingness to learn new technological tools

• A willingness and commitment to self-development to enhance one’s knowledge and skills.

• Patience, maturity, dependability and flexibility.

• Valid driver’s license, current First Aid and CPR and Food Safe.
