Support Worker Social Services - 8 week term

 

The Westman Women’s Shelter is looking for a full time Support Worker in Social Services for an 8 week term. Are you a student between 15-30 with an understanding of gender based violence and the impact is has on families? We are looking for a responsible individual to work with residents and their children who are fleeing domestic violence and have accessed Shelter resources. This position has been funded by Canada’s Summer Jobs, and will be 40 hours a week for 8 weeks, to start as soon as possible.

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • Must have thorough understanding of the issue of violence against women and their children, including types of abuse, the impact of violence on the woman and her family and the related historical, societal and power issues

  • Have a positive self-concept

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work or Social Service Worker and/or a combination of education and related experience

  • Strong Group Facilitation Skills

  • To be able to work effectively as a team member and to maintain an open, communicative and supportive working environment

  • To be able to work alone and exercise good judgement in handling the special demands inherent in a crisis facility. (i.e. high client numbers, assessing client priority – crisis line, walk-ins, etc.)

  • The ability to handle crisis situations in a calm, reasoned manner

  • A strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong computer skills and a willingness to learn new technological tools

  • A willingness and commitment to self-development to enhance one’s knowledge and skills.

  • Patience, maturity, dependability and flexibility

  • Criminal Record Check

  • Child and Adult Abuse Registry Check

  • Valid driver’s license, First Aid and CPR

The Westman Women’s Shelter is looking for a full time Child Care Worker Assistant for an 8-week term. Are you a student between 15-30 who enjoys working with Children and has a clear understanding of the Child Welfare Mandate? We are looking for a responsible individual to work with our Child and Youth program to assist with child care activities, supervision and organization. This position has been funded by Canada’s Summer Jobs, and will be 40 hours a week for 8 weeks, to start as soon as possible.

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • Student between 15-30 years of age.

The successful candidate will help staff with administrative duties such as answering phones, general organization and documentation. The Westman Women’s Shelter is looking for a full-time Cook for an 8-week term. 

Are you a student between the ages of 15-30 who loves to cook? We are looking for to prepare nutritious meals for residents and children staying in shelter. This position has been funded by Canada’s Summer Jobs, and will be 40 hours a week for 8 weeks, to start as soon as possible.

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • Student between 15-30 years of age.

  • Passion for cooking.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the Residents have nutritional meals at lunch and dinner.

  • Responsible for creating a meal plan that ensures the Residents nutritional requirements are met, offers a variety of meals and includes recipes.

  • Recipes for creating and purchasing weekly grocery lists and maintaining pantry storage

  • Work directly with the women to teach them how to cook, read and adjust recipes, do their own meal plan, budget planning based on their meal plan, kitchen basics, food safety.

  • Responsible to inform Supervisor or designate of client concerns, plans, behavior and concerns.

  • To promote a positive image of the services of the YWCA Westman Women’s Shelter in the Westman region.

  • Responsible for carrying out other duties as assigned by Shelter Supervisor.

  • Current First Aid and CPR

  • Current Food Safe Certificate.

  • Criminal Record Check

  • Child and Adult Abuse Registry Check

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
